Oh, I definitley agree. While I don't mind one-shots, my favorite slash fics are the ones where it's drawn out and somewhat angsty - all that build up before they get together is my favorite part in any romance fic, but it's even better with slash in my opinion because you have the added bonus of an even more "does he/she like me?" aspect and (depending on the time period) an aspect of something forbidden. Sorry I read a *lot* of Remus/Sirius MWPP-era fics...yeah It's converted my brain. Also the mindset on the other forum I'm on is basically the weirder the pairing, the better, which seems to have permanetly changed my mindset.

I feel you on that one. My roommate is like, Queen of Crack Pairings so when she looks at something and sees Finnick/Cinna...
Well, yeah.
But I think non-canon slash needs the more drawn out aspect to explain everything, to set everything up. Because while a Katniss/Peeta drabble can fit smoothly into canon and there may not be any need to elaborate, a Gale/Peeta one may feel more...incomplete.

How do you all feel about 'crack' slash though? Purposefully funny slash pieces. I read a really hilarious Gale/Haymitch piece.

Gale/Haymitch?
xD
Searching. Now.
-Cough- Anyway, crack slash? Well sounds fine as long as it's written well.

OMG THAT FIC.
I saw it once. So lulzy. Totally a troll fic, but lulzy nonetheless.
I don't see a problem with crack slash if it's well written. Said roommate once wrote Meta/Brute Shot. Actually, she wrote it for me after a joke on a podcast. She wrote it so emotionally that it actually caused me to tear up by the end. Like, "Nuuuuuuuu Meta you can't lose Brute Shot!"

I'd have to say that I'm not a huge fan of slash, not because I have a problem with the topic itself, but because I've rarely found any that's well-written, serious, and not meant to be insulting to someone.

There is a distinct lack of it in this fandom...I have yet to read a single Gale/Peeta. So maybe you have the misfortune of stumbling upon other fandoms with bad slash?
RvB is quite excellent with it, but that may be the exception to the rule, I don't know...

I think the reason why there's a distinct lack of it is because the people who came into the HG fandom aren't from other fandoms that really thrived in slash fiction. For instance, if you're in the Harry Potter FFn fandom, you're swimming in it. Same thing goes for any anime FFn community.
-where are most of the HG FFn writers coming from anyway? I'm from the anime side of things, and I've met a few Twilight-ers (sigh.) and Harry Potter goers, but really no where else...

Personally, I like slash, as LONG AS IT'S FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. And, of course, well written. I'll read it, even if I don't support the slash pairing.
In the Glee fandom, we have Kurt (played by Chris Colfer) and Blaine (played by Darren Criss.) Chris is gay, and Darren is a straight male who is very comfortable with his sexuality and playing a gay character. Yes, I ship the heck out of Klaine- no, I aircraft carrier ship it. The thing that bugs me is that many people ship CrissColfer. (Also, the people who ship Achele= Lea Michele/Dianna Agron, who are both straight.) It just bugs me that some people want straight others to be with people of the same gender. I will read CrissColfer if it's good, but it still annoys me. Dunno why. Maybe I'm of the unpopular opinion, but who knows.
I guess it's different with TV, though, because you have the characters as well as the actors.

Vivid - I agree with your reason of why there is a (sad) lack of slash in THG on FF.net.
Sky - I think people writing fanfiction about any real people would bother me. Like, don't some people write about bands? What is with that?

Rowena - I have a friend who's writing a fanfiction on a band, and I told that I think it's weird. Those are real people you're writing about, it's weird putting real people into a story, unless, as some of my friend's do, base characters off of friends. The other thing about my friend's fanfic is not only is it about real people, but the characters are gay, but in real life, they aren't. (Sorry, I started to rant a bit there)

Yeah. It bugs me when people do that. I dunno. For me it feels sort of like... a violation of privacy? Or like your making them 'unhuman' by changing their personality so drastically. I dunno.

Real people slash is just odd in my opinion.
Also, most of the people I know who got into THG (not by me as I did pass it along to quite a lot of LFTO) came from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians fandom, and I don't think they are a slash heavy group.

Aanaleigh: I agree with Sky that writing about real people - especially changing things about them - seems like a violation of privacy. Also it's just plain weird.
Jumping topics a little, one thing I can't read in slash is M-preg. I'm sorry. It's too weird!!! I honestly don't care how hypocritical I sound saying this, since usually I'm very accept-anything-and-anyone, but it's just wrong. Like, actually not possible.
That rant was not at all inspired by the fact that I just ran into a Remus/Sirius M-preg story...not even a little bit...
