Haha, ah 'Slash'.
-not a huge fan, but I don't hate it or anything like that. I just tend to like the het-couples more because I'm a shameless fangirl who likes to pretend I'm the girl with the guy of my choice. /shot by boyfriend.
HOWEVER if the character is gay or at least can be easily seen swaying that way in writing- I'll probably end up squealing just like every other yaoi fangirl. (I'm an anime fan at heart, so sorry for the terminology)
One thing I won't stand for however is badly written slash. I'm talking something like this-
-imagine wavy flashback lines here-
Gale sits conveniently alone in his family home, a thunderstorm pounding down on the roof outside. Suddenly, the door is thrown open to reveal a soaking wet Peeta, droplets of water snaking down his face and tangling in his sodden hair.
"Gale," Peeta cries desperately. "I must have you!"
-Unsure of the sudden rush of feelings that came bursting out of him, Gale ran to the wet blonde boy and the two sank into the floor with passionate kisses, hands roaming one another's bodies and-
-end flashback-
... CHARACTERIZATION. MAKE IT BELIEVABLE FOR ME PLZ. D: Slash must be well written or else I cannot and will not enjoy it~!
*I have never written slash before. Forgive my terrible, lulzy example please. xoxo

Oh my God Vivid, I love you. Have I mentioned that lately? XDD
I can't stand badly written slash, either. However, I have absolutely no problems with it, mainly because the first fandom I ever stepped into was very slash heavy. Surprisingly, it was South Park. Aged up characters, of course.
The only other fandom I am active in now besides THG is Red vs Blue, and fanfic wise it is slash central despite the fact that there are only two confirmed canon pairings in the entire show, and the main one is het. (Church/Tex) There is a slash canon pairing (Grif/Simmons) but it's treated as more of a running joke.
So I am used to read slash, however there are some kinds I don't like. Mainly I hate it when every character is paired up with everybody else. Huge problem in RvB fanfic. I really don't want to read Doc/that Red Zealot guy, kthnx.
For me, slash has to be well written and believable when it comes to meshing with canon. I think sexuality is fluid, of course, and everybody has the potential to swing both ways (personally I think our default setting is bisexual but that's just me) so even if it isn't portrayed in canon as such, one could make a case for it if written well. But you have to consider the factors of the characters themselves.
Let's take Peeta/Gale, for instance. I want a damn good reason why neither of them are going after Katniss. Where is she, what is she doing, what has happened to cause both of them to pull away from her? I mean, the 'If I can't have her, you can't have her either' type of dynamic is interesting to read, and would work for Gale and Peeta. But everything has to be explained in a feasible manner.
One thing that bothers me in some slash fics is when character bashing occurs with a canon het pairing. Like say some fangirl (and I am not saying all of y'all are dumb fangirls because I know you're not) decides she wants to write some Peeta/Gale. And instead of dealing with Katniss realistically, she blows Katniss's personality all out of proportion so that she is so horrible nobody would want to love her.
Yeah...go back to the drawing board with that one.
One of the cliches you do have to try and avoid is the drunken slash. I mean, of course, don't avoid it completely because cliches are cliches for a reason--they have worked in the past. But if you want to write it, make sure you can keep it engaging. I am guilty of using this cliche when I wrote a little bit of Gale/Peeta in one of my multi-chaps.
Another problem I see with slash writers who don't know what they are doing is well...anatomy fail, if you want me to be blunt with it. I know a lot of really fantastic slash writers who write some brilliant smut. But then I've also seen things that leave me scratching my head and wondering how much of a naive virgin the author was. (I'm also not saying that virgins can't write smut; my roommate writes excellent smut and she is a virgin lol). Just know what you're talking about before you write it. xD
Long post is long, but yeah. That's about it. And after all this...I'd like to add that I actually don't write much slash. Namely because I suck at it (no BCBW pun intended).

You have now. ;D
+I concur with the, erm, anatomy fail. I've seen some very hilarious slash fics before, most of which I'm assuming are written by girls who don't know what boys would actually do with one another. Several seem to do the whole-
'POOF!'
"Oh my gosh!" 'Galette' cries, staring into the mirror in shock. "I've somehow and un-explainably turned into a girl!"
Peeta coyly snakes his arm around the startled girls waist. "Hey baby."
...
...and uh... I may have written one almost identical to that in the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom when I was twelve... excuse me while I die of shame.
WE ALL AGREE WITH CHARACTERIZATION. Thank Heavens! It doesn't have to be fantastic, just believable enough for me to think 'okay, that's logical. Now let's get to the good bit-' -scroll, scroll, scroll- ... hyaaah~! This is amazing~!
*I'm enjoying writing these silly terrible slash examples. They're fun to do. :D

Obviously I think slash has to be well written in all senses, characterization and other, but I don't have a problem with fanon pairings of canon straight characters. (I think this may have something to do with my brain being converted on another fandom forum, but we'll not go into that right now.) For example, Remus/Sirius is my new favorite pairing *glomps* even if all of my friends think I'm crazy and roll their eyes at me.

I was never a fan of slash until a few months ago. Thanks to a friend who writes in the PJO fandom. ((he wrote PercyxNico)). Now, I actually really like it..

I wouldn't think PercyxNico would be very good (but I'm not judging because I have weird tastes sometimes - I'm just a hardcore Percy/Annabeth shipper )

PercyxNico is actually pretty decent. I'm usually a ThaliaxPercy, and RachelxNico shipper. Annabeth could leave and go die or something and I wouldn't bat an eye.

I think the only slash I read whilst practically drooling was- don't judge me- Cartman/Butters. The girl wrote them as seventeen year olds and actually made them believable characters. Then the delicious slash started (at the time I had no idea it was coming) and I had to stop and re-read things just to realise that I was enjoying it.
-I need to find that story again. I miss it. :C

This sounds ridiculous to say, but it's South Park. Don't judge me too quickly- I'm aware the show is vulgar up to eleven, but that one slash multi-chap' piece actually made me like those characters. It was THAT magical! xD

I don't mind slash, as long as (like you guys said before) it's believable. If it's two guys or girls just randomly start making out, then well, not believable. I read a AnnabethxThalia (PJO fandom) that was like that and it didn't have any story line at all, they pretty much just were in a room alone and suddenly... well some weird smut. Basically it needs to have development, how did these two get together? Especially if the characters are not gay in canon But I'm definitely not against it, I would like to see a good PeetaxGale story, would be interesting, anyone know any good ones? ^.^

South Park slash can be epic. Or rather, it used to be, back about three years ago when the witty college kids sat around writing fanfic to procrastinate taking finals. Nowadays it's invaded by stupid fangirls. The first fic I read there, actually (it was the fic that brought me to FFN) was Kyle/Kenny and it was win. With Christophe. Aged up to when they were like, sixteen.
My favorite fanfic of all time is delicious, delicious slash. When I read it, I knew it was a York/Delta pairing but I didn't know anything beyond that. And it was an absolutely beautiful story, and written so well it brought out all the emotions. A good story is a good story no matter who the pairing is, yeah?
