What did you think of the plot of CF? Did you like that it took place over a much longer span of time (half a year) as opposed to THG's much shorter time span (maybe a month tops)?
Personally I found it much harder to get through CF than THG - I liked the action of THG much better. What about you?

I liked THG better then CF but I liked the idea of the arena being like a clock in the Quarter Quell in CF.
I don't know why but that was my favourite arena spoken of in the books. (Even though SuCo only told us of three I'm pretty sure.)
And the character Finnick and Johanna that were introduced in CF? Love, love, love. ;D
On the whole I thought it was good, maybe a little bit fillery, leading up to the big war and all, but I still liked it a lot. ^.^

What's weird is that Catching Fire is my favorite of the three because of its many epic moments (I gasped out loud when Peeta played the pregnancy card during the interview) yet somehow I always keep a copy of THG in my schoolbag for when I'm anxious. not CF.
I did like the longer time span; it made sense for this story arc.

I liked the actual Quell, but by the time I got to reading it I was losing interest from slogging through all the filler leading up to it, and had read ahead some - my bad habit of what I do when I'm losing interest in a book.

Some people say they saw the Quell coming. I didn't. My response was pretty much, "OSHIT."
There was a fair amount of filler in the beginning, though. That was one thing I noticed that began to happen a little bit in CF and a whole bunch in MJ--her tendency to info dump. I don't remember it happening in THG but it's like, a paragraph of the reader being told stuff, and that drives me up the wall. After all the first rule of writing is show, not tell. ;D

I didn't see the Quell coming - I mean, I think I read ahead, so I sort of did, but I wouldn't have otherwise. My thinking ahead tends to be "ooo, those characters would make a good pairing...*fic idea*," not actually guesses about what will happen in the book.
But yeah - too much filler for me made me read slower at the end.

When I read 'the Hunger Games' I devoured it. I blasted through the entire book in four-five hours.
-Catching Fire took me two days. It wasn't as amazing as the first, and while I liked the view on the previous victors- not a proper view, but still, we met a few- I sort of guessed that Katniss would be dragged into the games one more time, and for that we'd need some sort of 'special' game, so the Quell was a bit obvious.
So much damn filler though. I know she was making it so anyone could pick up the book and be alright, but she spent too long on it. A page or two would've done- not entire chapters.

There is no need to rehash everything after all. Or if you're going to rehash everything at least do it in a way that is fresh and entertaining, and maybe contains a plot twist or two.
Like (and excuse my fandom babble here) season six of RvB, Reconstruction. They brought in a new character, Washington, and the usual gang had to explain things to him, like how Church was a 'ghost'. But Wash was such an engaging character that nobody minded hearing it again. There were new plot points anyway, and the old stuff (like Church being a 'ghost') ended up becoming a plot twist, as Wash figures out that Church isn't a ghost at all--he's an AI. And the end was such a shocker that I nearly fell out of my desk chair when I saw it.

CF is my favourite book of the series. I liked the idea of the Quell, and I liked how we got to meet Victor's from other Districts (Finnick and Johanna). The longer timespan I loved, but the beginning was boring, as it was all just filler, and I much prefer the faster paced moments from the arena.

CF is my least favorite. All the filler annoyed me to no end. The QQ was actually spoiled for me. I went to the library to pick up the book and then I was on the computer putting MJ on hold, and I accidentally saw the summary... it was like "Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice, but..."
I freaked out. But the clock was still awesome; I didn't predict that. I generally don't make predictions anyways.
It was a good book I guess, but when I first read it, I was too in love with Peeta to appreciate a lot of it. I like it more now than I did then. Peeta's baby-bomb thing at the interview made me gasp out loud.

-I really liked the arena and its tricks. Was anyone else burning with curiosity to see what was on the other islands of the clock face? I wanted to see what was making that ominous buzzing noise- and what monster tore apart the other tribute.

I wanted to see what was making that ominous buzzing noise- and what monster tore apart the other tribute. I feel like SuCo should make a little THG guide as an extra book to accompany the other books. You know how series like Uglies and HP and PJO have extra books with more information? That way SuCo could put what was in the other parts of the arena, because I really, really, really want to know. And she could include parts of the medicine book for major characters like Rue and other people who died later on in MJ.

To be honest, CF was my least favorite book. It was sort of like...like a hamburger patty. (Oh my God I sound so stupid) Let me explain:
THG: (Top of patty) Well-cooked, lots of flavor, crunchy, and gives you an awesome place to start! CF: (Middle of patty) Raw, gross, and just there to fill up space. By far the worst part of the patty, and needs much more work. MJ: (Bottom of patty) Slightly lower quality than the top, but really holds the whole thing together.
I love the idea of an extra guide! Like, Warriors has "Cats of the Clans," "Secrets of the Clans," etc. I'd buy it.
