(Obviously the books get compared to Twilight too, but I'm posting this in here because, with the movie, it's happening even more, and it's in regards to an article I just read about the movie.)
So, I dunno if you all know that Jennifer Lawrence was on the cover of Teen Vogue (I have a subscription; don't laugh), but she was, and in the article they talked a lot about THG (obviously) and compared it a lot to Twilight. (To the point where they wondered what equivalent of Twi-hards was given to THG fans *facepalm*) I almost want to write in and simply say, "on behalf of THG fans everywhere, stop comparing these books to Twilight!" because they couldn't be more different.
What do you think about this?

The constant comparison of the Hunger Games to Twilight bothers me, mainly because of what lengths I went to in order to insist that I wasn't that sort of fan in any sphere.
-as far as I can tell, the only similarity they have is that Meyer wrote a review included on the THG's dust jacket, which resulted in many of her fans picking up the book. Very few of them actually enjoyed it- honestly, how many Twilight fans have we come across in the THG fandom? I think I can count four- because it's not the same material as Twilight.
While I don't want to go spouting that the Hunger Games are amazing and Twilight sucks a golf-ball, they're different enough that I feel uncomfortable knowing that within the scope of a year, there might be 'Twihards' running amok and creating a bad name for Hunger Games readers.
Ah, alas. I just hope the magazines are just being typical by bringing Twilight into any article they can because it boosts readership with Twilight fans, and that this isn't going to be a legitimate issue...

Twilight and THG are completely different. Twilight focuses more on the romance side of things, is the most memorable thing about Twilight (if you have read them) the romance or the war between vampires and wolves? The romance. THG mainly revolves around the war and the romance seems kind of like a backround plot, not that it isn't important just that it isn't as focused on as other things in the book. And Twilight ends completely different to THG. Oh no, Twihards... -Grabs stick to defend herself-

If we get some name like Twi-hards, I'll smash something. Seriously.
The Hunger Games are so much more serious than Twilight, and they shouldn't need a nickname to draw attention. I think the people who want to call us Hunger-ites or something just don't want to deal with the questions the series raises.

How are THG and Twilight similar? Twilight is about a sappy and cheesy romance, mind you I loved the books just thought it was cliche, overdone, predicatable and too perfect. I mean really, Jacob conveniently inprints on Renesmee so the pack can't destroy her and they don't need to go to war, plus he gets over his heartache for bella? It's too perfect. Hunger Games on the other hand is about war, violence, dictatorship, oppresion, and rebeling all wrapped up into one awesome package. It's real to. Prim dies, Finnick dies and Katniss doesn't really even save the day by some miracle. She breaks down when her sister dies, and shatters and loses one of ehr best friends and doesn't get to keep him like Bella did with Jacob. How exactly are these two books similar?

You know what the sad thing is? Even though there are no similarities, the media is going to keep trying to say they're alike in some way.
How depressing.

As ripred said, if we get a nickname like Twi-hards, I will seriously have to kill somebody. I am not kidding, I will go all Indianapolis on you. (That's sort of an inside joke...it involves slapping. Hard.)
There really are no similarities. Zip. Ze-ro. And yet the media thinks that they're exactly alike. In THG, the heroine is strong. She doesn't let anybody tell her what to do or how to do it, and yet, she shows she has a soft side when Prim dies. Bella really doesn't have a personality of any kind whatsoever. She spends all her time thinking about Edward, Edward, nothing but Edward, then when he leaves she practically dissolves into nothing.
Plus, as meg said, everything in Twilight is too perfect. Everything gets tied up in a perfect little bow, Bella gets to keep her boyfriend and her best friend, her baby is fine, and she gets to be a vampire. Everything is just how Bella wants it. But THG is real. You don't get to keep everything you want, and you don't get everything you want. When you live in a dystopia, your life will never, ever be perfect. You will always end up with pain in the end. If Katniss married Gale, Peeta would hate her, and if she married Peeta, Gale would hate her. If she had children that were hurting her, they would have never been born. She doesn't get what she wants in the end. She ends up with a shred of doubt and guilt.
So I have no idea why the media seems convinced that a girl who always gets what she wants is similar in any way to a girl who knows that some things are unattainable. It doesn't do anybody any good.

If any one calls me something with -hard in it, I'll explode. Don't mock the mockingjay!
Anyway, the only thing I see that's similar between Twilight and THG is the fact that I was (or am) worried that the movie won't live up to my standards. But THG movie will rock, compared to the trainwreck that was the Twilight saga movie franchise.
Seriously, how many Twi-hards have read the books? Most of them just swoon over Robert Pattinson.
I can't believe anybody would like the Twilight books, let alone the movies, when THG is out there. But, they aren't even similar the same literary subject.

I read the Twilight books when I was done with THG, and I'll admit, I actually liked them. -Sue me- I just haven't seen the movies yet. And even though I'm on Team Edward ('cos vampires rock) I hate hate hate Robert Pattinson. And Kristen Stewart...do not even get me started. Also, I would appreciate if we didn't get all hated on because we've read Twilight. Seriously, I don't get why we've been hated on.
