What was your first impression of the concept of the Games? Were you shocked and horrified, or did you already know the set up of what the book was about?

My first impression was along the lines of "Um what?" It took me a while to get over the fact of the concept of the Games. And I must say, as weird and creepy as this is.... I like it now.

I knew what it was about by reading the cover, and my reaction was along the lines of 'Oh my effing God yes.' There's a reason the first book is my overall favorite, and that's probably because I find it the best written of all the books, especially its introduction of the Games.

I was pretty excited when I first read about the concept of the games. It's just like the time of the gladiators and I couldn't wait to see what would happen.

When I found out that they would use kids, I started to think, "Well, twelve isn't actually that young," but then I realized that it would be like...like me and my friends being in the Games. And because of my friends' infinite kindness, we all said we'd volunteer in place of each other. Anyway, I also thought about how anyone would condone this. There are 12/13 districts, and one Capitol. Couldn't they rebel? But nooooo, the Capitol makes it impossible. I agree that the first book is the best written. But that's probably 'cos Collins had as long as she wanted to write the first book, but she had a certain amount of time to write the next two.
