Do it. (That is, make the homosexuality thread.) Maybe we could come up with some opinions I could share with my school's GSA! (Yeah, I'm in GSA. I know, you wish you were this cool...I'm also in book club. I got kicked out of coffeehouse ) ^^off topic. sorry. Anyway replying to someone way upthread (well not that far but a while ago) I've managed to find some really good relationship-blossoming stories that are actually realistic *le gasp* although most of them are rated M. The Twilight fandom is surprisingly full of these - I mean, it's full of bad fic too, but if I find a good fic I go to the author's page, read any other stories of theirs I like, and then check out their favs and fav authors. To start the homosexuality discussion off (feel free to move this to the new thread if you make one Carter), it ticks me off SO MUCH when people are okay with people who are gay, but not them being gay. (If that didn't make sense, think of the people who say "I'm okay with gay guys...just what they do really grosses me out." a la one of my friends who, strangely, didn't have a problem with what lesbians do. Um.) (EDT: Clarification - this was a straight, male friend of mine who thought lesbians were hot, which opens up a whole new can of worms in the girls-who-aren't-gay-kissing-other-girls-because-guys-like-it category ) Like, I'm watching the sitcom Will & Grace right now, and it's so amusing how Will's love interests fall through plot holes while Grace's survive. But I'm thinking of this girl who was talking to one of my friends about a gay friend of hers who had changed his facebook profile pic to a picture of him kissing his boyfriend, and she was all "I don't want to see that." which I found really obnoxious, but since I didn't know her I didn't call her out on it >.< I could go on and on, and probably will later, but I have to go eat dinner now

At your request, Rowena, this is in the newly branded 'Homosexuality' board. I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay; it's just a fact of nature. I blame religion *points at Christianity* for destroying the safety of LGBT members in most social settings. Here's another double standard: 'Girls making out in public is sexy and hot, guys doing it is wrong and disgusting.' Where's the love that America never had? Most of those girls kissing are just doing it to get in the pants of guys; and it usually works. (Good point Rowena). Now for the Q+A portion (With my opinions, of course. ;D): Q: But who do gay guys want to please by doing that in public? A: No one. It isn't to get anyone 'hot' but themselves, and they all have a right to do it. Q: There's no difference between gay people and gay supporters, right? A: Wrong. As many people show, you don't have to be gay to support gay rights, marriage, etc. Q: It isn't fair that gays get to marry! It's as if you want to marry your dog. A: Well think of it like this. "When do we get to vote on YOUR marriage?" And it's still the union of two human beings. ... Anyway, this is all my opinion, and you're entitled to your own. And I hope you WILL post your opinions; insight is always helpful. P.S: I've been questioning my own sexuality for a while now and, I think I'm gay, or at least bisexual. I'm still looking into it.

First...Carter I think you are just in love with that spoiler tag right haha Any way, I have never been a big homosexual supporter in anyway. I can read about it, no problem. But I don't like to see it in public, but before any yells at me about double standards, I'm not a big fan of any display of affection in public, gay, striaght, bi or anything. My thought is that is fine what you choose to do, but not everyone wants to see you sucking face in the middle of a road (I had to watch this couple go at it for 25 minutes straight one time at work because they thought they should do it next to the window I sat at) As for women that kiss other women to get to guys, grow up. It's immature in my book, and annoying. The marriage thing is iffy for me. It really depends on what kind of marriage you want. The kind where you just have a justice of the peace doing the ceremony, I think that should be within your rights as a citizen here in the US. But when it comes to religion, I have to stand by mine (the big bad guy of christianity, catholic) and I just can't accept it. Basing it off of my religion, its not really recognized, and in a scientific standing there is no support for it. Scientifically it would be a genetic dead end in the tree of life. The entire purpose of all animals (within the theory of evolution) is survival of ones genes, not just themselves but their genes, and that is accomplished through reproduction. Through natural selection animals are attracted to another that would increas their genes' chances for survival the longest. Having a homosexual orientation in things would kill off your your entire gene set because you wouldn't reproduce and that is against the entire goals of nature. Those are my views anyway

Yes, but if you think about it, science has been abandoned by human many times before. I'm sure nature didn't intend to have noxious fumes start to destroy our atmosphere. I wouldn't think nature intended to kill the Dodo bird when it went extinct. If we respected the laws of nature, where would we be now? In a clean utopia where humans don't destroy their environment.
Your marriage opinion has grounds: Homosexuality isn't accepted by most religions. But, as Americans (or Canadians, Africans, etc.) everyone has a right to marriage. Just as everyone has the right to divorce.
Public affection, I understand. Maybe if people restricted it to just hand-holding, not foreplay (literally) in public, people wouldn't be so harsh.

*is extremely angered* Not by this thread - don't worry. But because I was typing a totally awesome super long reply and PROBOARDS ATE MY WRITING! Argh *dies* So this is the short version. I think all couples - gay, straight, what have you - should restrict PDA in public. Hand holding, hugging, even a little kissing I'm fine with, but dances at which I have to watch people I'm in class with suck face a few feet away from me have sort of scarred me for life in the PDA department Straight girls who kiss girls to make guys want them tick me off enormously. It's just so wrong. (Also, it's so sexist that girls do that to get guys but would you ever see a straight guy kiss another guy because a girl might think it was hot? No.) Agreed This is one of my all-time pet peeves, because it's such a stupid question. Do only women support women's rights? Do only black people support black rights? Um, no. So why are we having this conversation? Sheesh. Still, people really do seem to think that you have to be gay to be interested in gay rights. I'm in GSA, and I'm pretty sure that some people think it stands for Gay Student Alliance (it doesn't) instead of Gay Straight Alliance. I support gay marriage 100%. I think it's only fair. My state is about to pass a law legalizing gay marriage*, I think, and I think it's really great that 4 years ago the governor said he would never support gay marriage, and now he's trying to pass this law. It just shows you how many people actually support it, so much so that he changed his position on it. (To be fair, I live in a fairly progressive city/state, but I still think it's awesome.) * - sorry, this just reminded me of a shirt one of the guys in GSA was wearing today for club fair. It said leagalize gay. I thought it was pretty brilliant, personally. If only we lived in a society in which people's sexuality was indefinite until they figured out what it was for themselves, instead of the default being straight and any variation on that requiring an announcement. I support you for figuring it out for yourself <3

That is a common misconception my friend. (sorry but I go all college majorly when this type of thing gets brought up)
Extinction is actually a natural factor through which species must evolve. CHanges in climate occur and species have three options to take. A)adapt B)move c)die out. It is nature. It is part of the survival of the fitest.
ANd they aren't just 'noxious fumes' its the greenhouse gases, which have been around longer than humans, human technology has just changed the levels at which they occur. According to the laws of thermodynamics, we cannont create anything new, we can change it, but everything that is put into the air was already somewhere on the earth as for your 'noxious fumes' they were stored under ground as fossil fuels.
Also, our increased amount of greenhouse gases is actually bringing the Earth back to its state before the rise of the anamalia kingdom (according to one hypothesis on its way of becoming a theory as widely accepted as the law of gravity). You see according to this thought, the earth's atmosphere was mostly CO2 which gave rise to the plants. The plants used CO2 and its byproduct was O2 and could have been considered a 'noxious fume' at the time(more than 5million years ago) This sudden rise is the plants CHANGED the atmosphere, much like we are today. That change allowed for the development of the anamalia kingdom which thrives in O2 rich atmosphere. Plants would be thriving in this if deforestation stopped, but if we continue and kill ourselves, deforestation will stop and plants will thrive again and the world will basically be able to start anew. Because also another sign of this, refer back to my three options of climate changes, many animals are moving away from the equator due to the rising temperatures of the changing climate.
So in truth there is no law of nature. What comes around will and everything has a hand in changing things. We have to adapt, leave our environment, or die out. Nature's way of doing things has worked for milleniums, I don't see it changing just because of us. We have to jump on board with how nature works, or we will end up like the dodo.

I really don't have much to say about this, since most has already been said.
The double-standard is one of the most annoying things in the world. I used to be bi last year, and the amount of times I heard 'Ugh, two men sexing it up is disgusting, but girl on girl is leik, teh hawtness' really is frustrating. Especially when it's considered an attractive quality for a girl to have.
I live in a fairly religious, homophobic town, and it often shocks me how people that don't really consider themselves religious -- as in, people that say they're Christian because it's the norm, but not really caring about God or anything -- will fall back onto the religious argument about gay being not being okay, even though they disregard pretty much everything else said in the Bible. It really makes no sense to me.
(I am personally a Christian, but I think that love is love, no matter who is giving or receiving it.)

Carter - um, what do you think I misspelled? 'Cause I meant that to be smaller than the rest of my writing, and I think I spelled everything else write...um...
TM - yeah, just agreeing with you even more on the whole m/m vs. f/f thing. Although I don't have a problem with guys thinking that's hot, b/c you can think whatever you want to think, personally I think m/m is hot, but I do have a problem with the media catching on and girls kissing each other just so guys will look.

Rowena - That came out wrong. >.> I honestly don't mind if people think it's hot, but the double standard and how girls manupilate it is just incredibly frustrating.
But meh, complaining about it won't change anything. *shrugs*

No, I totally got where you were coming from - I was agreeing with you that it's alright to think it, but the double standard is really annoying. Also, I wonder how much the fact that guys like it is a factor of how faux-lesbianism (yeah I don't know if that's a real term) has become so glorified in our over sexualized, media-saturated culture that it's ingrained in them to like it, the way some men can't find a real woman they'd want to date because they've watched to much porn. (Then again, that's another debate...heh...) It reminds me of an article I was reading in Cosmopolitan (what can I say? I like killing my brain cells) about "what guys like" - things rated with a "totally" face, an "eh" face, and a "no way" face. "Suggest a threesome with you and another girl" got a "totally" face. "Suggest a threesome with you and another guy" got a "no way" face. I mean, the whole magazine is just telling women what they can do to please their men, but that one really ticked me off. And now I've gone off on a tangent. Sorry! Um, return to the topic of the thread?

Have fun with those dead brain cells, Rowena ^.^ Not to be mean or anything...
Anyway, I think that Cosmo thing is kind of on-topic. Although I wonder what woman would ever want to suggest a threesome, with another woman. But that's a whole other thing.
Hmm... I wonder what that Cosmopolitan article had to say about the pseudo-lesbian kissing. Most likely a "totally" face. D:
I think faux- and pseudo-lesbian should totally be words.

They actually said that a way you could turn a guy on but not actually have a threesome would be, if you saw a hot woman, whisper "she's totally my type" or something and then role-play that she's there later. Which I think is pretty much encouraging faux-lesbian activities, so... *cricket* Of course they're reasoning for why a guy would like this would be that he would want to see his girl being taken care of...um, not that I'm saying some guys wouldn't like that, but I really don't think that's why most guys would like it.Also, yes. Faux- and pseudo-lesbian are now words on Starvation. Deal with it

I, am not really supporter of it, but I don't really mind it. Except, when you see it. At my school, there were these two girls sucking faces at lunch. IN FRONT OF EVERYONE! It was not the best sight, and I didn't really want to see it. And, I was walking home from school one day with my friends (all girls, that I was walking home with, I have guy friends, but I wasn't walking home with them) and this group of (other) girls started chasing us. And they were lesbian. When we reached the park by my house, they stopped and started graffiting the play structure. With stuff like "Being lesbian is the best!" and such. A lot of innapropriate stuff. And little kids play on that play structure a lot. That's really bothered me. Now a bunch of kids are gonna see it. And say two guys were sucking faces on a street. A bunch of kids we see it. They don't need to know about this kinda stuff yet. I would prefer they kept it more private, holding hands, or hugging is fine, but sucking faces? No, please. Not in public.
