I just got a new Kindle 3 today for a third of the price it usually sells for. I am busy uploading the entire Hunger Games series ^.^
What are your opinions on the Kindle itself?

I don't like eReaders, if I must, I use my blackberry or my laptop for that, but otherwise I love my books. Theres just something about holding the weight of a book in my hands, the smell of new and old books (i know I'm weird), the feel of the pages. A computer just can't replace that for me.

To me, eReaders are to books what the iPod and MP3 players are (were?) to CDs. Now I wasn't super attatched to CDs, so I prefer my iPod thank you very much, but I am very attatched to my books and am against eReaders because I do not want to see books become obsolete. I'm never going to get one.
Also, I read so much fic online that I now need to have an actual book in my hand for my brain to make the connection that this is published work. (Me, have a problem? I don't know what you're talking about...) So even if I wasn't firmly anti-eReader, I would have to think twice about getting one just for that reason.

Don't get me wrong. If someone starts calling books 'obsolete', this kindle will be burned.
But I like the idea of having 3,500 books at my finger tips. I can't imagine lugging 5 books around, let alone a few thousand.
I don't like the way some of the new eReaders (iPads, smartphones, etc.) have detracted from the feel of reading a book. That's why I love the kindle; It's as if I'm holding a written page. The leather case I have enhances that feeling with the texture of books from olden times.
Will my kindle ever win out over an actual book? No. Does that prevent me from enjoying books on it? No.

See, I'm not hating on your kindle, but I would never even buy one for fear I was helping books become obsolete. Then again, I'm also the kind of person who packed six books for a 7th-grade camping trip and didn't get to read any of them, so I don't exactly mind hauling five books around at a time.

I was known for carrying at least 3 books all through highschool, none of them for classes. I also pack at least four and then however many I buy when I leave town. I have the same problem that Rowena does though, I read so many fics online, I have to have an honest to goodness book in my hands to realized its published.
That and I just can't support the kindles and what. I even spend the extra money to go to the bookstore in town rather than going to walmart

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that problem of being on the edge of confusing books and fic. At least I haven't started confusing canon and fanon yet. Much.

I don't have a whole of fanon so I don't worry about that too much. -coughGalejohannaiscanoncough-

Hp hasn't done that to me because it truly felt like it was brought full circle and closed with future fic room. I liked its ending( SPOILERs for deathly hallows ) with kids and marriagee in the epilogue. It felt lke it bElonged
@s is anyone else still having trouble dealing with the end of an era with hp, I suppose this deserves its own thread though...

Um, I just enjoy reading HP slash fic. Because I am really that lame. I am perfectly happy with the ending (I'm just convinced that Albus and Severus belong together - admit it. You know it's true), and am struggling to accept the end of the Marauders. *tears up* Because Remus and Sirius belong together, too. Tonks can go die in a hole. Not really. But she can have someone else.
