Introducing Starvation’s Clever, Crazy, Completely Non-Canon Challenge!
When is it?
It’s an all-new Starvation event that’s going to take place from September 17th -September 30th.
EDIT: CCCNCC has been extended until October 22nd to give all members the oppurtunity to post more fic.
What does that super-duper-long title mean?
Basically, the challenge is to write something that doesn’t fit into The Hunger Games canon. This can mean either writing about a non-canon couple, or writing an Alternate Universe (AU) story in which, for example, Peeta eats the berries at the end of The Hunger Games, or Gale and Madge get reaped for the Games instead of Katniss and Peeta.
So we can pretty much write anything?
Yes, as long as it’s not canon! For the purpose of this challenge, we’re considering canon couples to be Katniss/Peeta, Katniss/Gale, Gale/Madge, Finnick/Annie, Mr.Everdeen/Mrs.Everdeen, and Mr.Mellark/Mrs.Everdeen, so any other pairing is fair game! However, since the epilogue of Mockingjay is very ambiguous, AU stories that follow canon up until the ending of MJ but turn AU past the time frame of the epilogue are not allowed. (For example, you can’t do an AU that Finnick and Annie’s son falls in love with Katniss and Peeta’s daughter, because for all we know that could happen down the line, past what the epilogue tells us.) However is your AU is something like the rebellion failed, time frame doesn’t matter.
Also, for this challenge, canon pairings are allowed if the story is AU.
How many stories can I write?
You can write up to three separate stories.
EDIT: Along with the time extension on CCCNCC, authors may now submit up to five seperate stories for the challenge. However entries must still comply with all other rules (500 words or more, can stand alone) or they will be disqualified.
How long do they have to be?
They have to be at least 500 words long each.
Can it be part of another series/story/AU I’ve already written about?
As long as your story can stand alone and make sense by itself, it’s fine to have your story fit into another series or universe you’ve already started.
So can I post it on FF.net/somewhere else?
Not until the challenge is closed. After that you are free to post it wherever you like, as long as you say it was written for Starvation’s Non-Canon Challenge!
Will they be judged?
No. All stories will be voted on by Starvation members, and the winners in each category will be awarded a badge made by Starvation's Graphic Designer, Subject Matter.
What are the categories?
The categories are:
All entries that qualify for the category will be voted on - for example all AU stories will be voted on for all the AU awards, and all non-canon pairings will be entered for all the non-canon pairing awards (except Best Slash).
Please make sure your entry follows our posting format.
