Instead of taking over another thread for this topic, Kate suggested posting it here. So here is it.
The end of the world. What's your opinion on it? Do you think that it'll end in 2012, or that that's just a lie? Do you think that it's going to end soon, later, what?

Honestly, I don't think the whole world will ever end. If there is one bacteria left, it can breed, adapt, and create new life on Earth. I also think people need to stop spending so much time being pessimistic about the world ending. ;D
Also, the world was supposed to end in 1000 and 2000. ...I don't think that happened, as I was born in 1998, and I'm alive.

Y2K. I remember thinking about that, what I would do, I kept having this image of little 8 year old me huddled in a dark corner all alone. Well, the lights are still on and I'm still begging for some alone time. I don't think the actual world will end, who can really say what the world includes. I think there is a possibility that life as we know it may end but I doubt the entire world will end.
A lot of people put the 'signs' on things like out greenhouse gas issues and global warming. But really with global warming, we're coming out of ice age, of course the world is going to warm up, the tmeperatures have never been the same all the time. Also, according to some theories, the world was run by one type of organism before, a type of plant in/near the ocean. THat plant became so numerous and the by products(oxygen) built up that it basically caused the destruction of itself and the rise of a new organism group (animals). Sound familar? so maybe in some ways history really repeats itself and we're getting ready to start over agin.
But I believe more firmly that the most likely thing that will happen is that our way of living will be interrupted and we will have to adapt, not humans strongest point in my opinion.

Yes, thank you for saying that (as I have no knowledge of science)!
I think global warming is real. -Shrugs- Sue me. I just think that there has to be an explanation for how fast the Earth is heating up.

I don't believe the world will end. Just a change of era. But as you said Kate, we just came out of an ice age, of course we're going to warm up. It makes sense, we just need to adapt, as we have been doing since humans began.
Al Gore was a complete lie. The information he showed was faked.

Now I'm not saying global warming isn't happening. We just have a lot of different factors playing into things. Climates happen over decades, weather happens yearly, monthly, daily, etc. We are coming out of an ice age, but we do have receding polar caps. It has become generally accepted (90%) by leading education facilities that global warming is happening. Other signs include migrating wildlife, and changing weather patterns.
So, in my opinion I'm saying global warming is happening, just not in the degree that some people are trying to say its happening. Smaller increments yes, but not a suden explosion of 03 as it pulls away from the Earth. My environmental opinions have flexible boundaries on things.

I think global warming is definitely happening, just to throw my opinion in there.
As for 2012, my dad has been reading a lot of books on the subject (don't ask) but the overall gist seems to be that it's not going to be like bam! everyone dies, but more of an overall change in society or something. I dunno, I'm not an expert, but the world definitely is not going to end. The date may be significant because of a large change that happens, or it may mean nothing at all. As my freshman year history teacher pointed out, lots of other ancient civilizations have predicted the end of the world, and none of those came true, so why should we be flipping out about this prediction?

I think that is a really interesting point, that so many other civilizations have predicted an end yet we don't give them quite as much recognition as we do the mayans

I mean it kinda just adds to the world-not-going-to-end point of view But so many things have freaked people out in our lifetime - the turn of the century when everyone thought all the computers were going to stop, and 6-6-06, and just recently there was another one, it was in the paper - maybe that was just around me? Anyway I don't see the point of freaking out about it either way.

Wanna know how I AM POSITIVE the world will NOT end in 2012? I have a soup can that expires in 2013. EDIT: My opinions are(Don't hate me instantly, just my belief)what the bible says. I believe the world will end when the time comes, and not because of(sorry)global warming or anything else. It'll end because God WANTS it to end. Don't mean to go Christian, but he'll end the world after the rapture and the seven years of tribulation. He then will make a NEW heaven and earth, and Satan and everyone else who didn't accept Christ will go to the boiling lake for eternity. I mean not to get on any of your bad sides, but let me ask a question. Do you REALLY think global warming is real? I am just proving my point, but the world will always get warmer really fast, then cold really fast. Everything is in sync. I mean, take the Ice Age for example. There was a time that the world went cold really fast and stayed that way. Then it warmed up really fast and became a different climate. So, it would be more of a Warm Age than Ice, if you guys are saying the world is heating up incredibly fast. That's just my opinion. ;D
