Because Vivid and I were discussing (arguing about?) this in the "What are you reading?" thread. I don't think it belongs in WAR 'cause it's not controversial but there will be different opinions So, not gonna lie...I really hated these books (I didn't even finish reading the first one). And the MC bothered me to no end.

I liked the first two books, but after that it got a bit... drawn out and boring. While Balthazar's sister was an alright character, she wasn't interesting enough for me to stay focused on reading.
I didn't mind the protagonist, Bianca. She wasn't as infuriating as Bella from Twilight, but I'll admit she was weak and helpless for a lot of the book. But I enjoyed that because I've grown to hate strong female leads and I just adore the helpless "ah, h-help me!" girls. -but not the "I'll go comatose and jump off a cliff if you leave me" heroines. -cough- Bella. -cough-
Ah, but I will admit it did just seem like it was cashing in on Twilight's success. That no one can deny.

The fact that the beginning of the first book was exactly the same as the beginning of Twilight was an auspicious start to Evernight, and I feel like it went downhill from there ( spoiler warning) I'm all for the author revealing something at the last minute, and I've read books where the author does it really well, but the whole Bianca-is-a-vampire reveal was, imo, stupid. It would be one thing if it wasn't talked about at all and that's why it wasn't mentioned 'til then, but she's going on and on about how the few weird (human) students are treated and omits that she knows everyone else are vampires? Please.

Haha, that reveal left me in stitches. I got over it quickly because I'm the kind of person who'll keep reading if they like the setting (and I enjoyed the academy's ambiance.) but it's true, she hadn't mentioned at any point before hand that she was at all vampiristic.
Then all of a sudden she's talking about having disliked the taste of blood for ages, blah blah blah, I couldn't help but wonder... was this the author's intention from the start, or did she think "yeah, throw it in there."

I feel like it was her intention from the start, like she wanted to shock the reader, but she didn't pull it off at all well.
